The solution to the question above works for making calls, but not sending texts. Is there a way to send texts through Google Voice without using the web interface?

In the states the major carriers allow you to send texts via email - you send an email to destinationnumber@whatevertheaccessserveris.com , and I know that some of the carriers in other countries do this too.
Does O2 provide this service?
