I am in charge of a Windows-based network of over 70 computers at work. Servers are Windows Server 2008 and workstations are Windows Vista and Windows XP.

I work on a system where I don't have admin rights, and I've installed if people really need admin rights....
Two points
Most decent modern software no longer requires admin rights to install (nor should it).
That's what I'd do...

Back to top, however you could very easily add a .htaccess file to your /admin directory to do this.
You could use a .htaccess file to restrict access to files in the admin directory.
