Too weird for it to be raining like this in January! Normally we've got snow. And yeah, I'm VERY glad this rain isn't snow otherwise we'd be snowed in big time.

The weather got so severe last night we ended up in the basement with tornado sirens at 3:00 in the morning thunderstorms sooo much....

Very, very rarely do we get them here. Maybe once a year and if then they aren't near me so I can barely make out the flash. I love thunderstorms but I almost never get to see them.
Do you get lots of thunderstorms in your area?

Your assumption of a strong correlation between watch boxes and severe thunderstorms is probably freezing levels usually inhibits any sort of severe thunderstorm development.
