I guess you could also sew on the front of my card and never sewing directly onto the front.
Do any amount of sewing you want on it and tuck the loose strings behind.

If you have neither.
With a different colour thread in the top and bottom - so you can see where it is pulling tight to distort or a topstitching needle (both have a bigger eye than the usual sewing needles.
