No rifling marks on projectile 2.
Some pros of the sabot 1.
The sabots and smaller bullet.

I want to use the 250 or 300 gr XTP's in .452
MMP-HPH-24 short finger sabots.
Heard R-7 and IMR 4198 gives good velocity, and AA 5744 is a very consistent powder.
Anyone have a favorite load with any of the above components?
Favorite 209 primer?
Thanks...

It will not shoot Sabot Slugs....
If it is a short barrel CYL choke "tactical" gun it will shoot Foster/Rifled Slugs (same thing) very well.
There are two large subtypes of slugs to start, sabot slugs, for rifled slug barrels, and Foster.

I bought these nifty 400 grain "Bone Crusher" bullets, really just to see what sort of things they would shoot through, and they are .458, but in the sabot they are .509 and I can't even drive them down the barrel with a short wooden dowel and a hammer...

I would ask MMP what the diameter is of their orange .458 sabots....
Perhaps they're thinner and have a smaller diameter than the TC Sabots.
MMP makes .50 caliber sabots that fit .458 bullets.

I guess if you were shooting 200-300 yards a sabot and a longer barrel might make sense.
50 cal bullet with no sabot = big hole in deer.
I'm happy with Powerbelts.

Many of these bullets cast were from salvaged bullets I've dug out of dirt backstops at numerous ranges around the country. In examing these bullets from probably...

The bore is not from wiping but from hot gases getting past the bullet (or sabot) and melting very lower temps and they still leave a bunch of lead behind when they are fired.
