So what does the Space Shuttle mean to you?
I've been lucky enough to be stationed in DC as a member of the Air Force while everything has been going on with the shuttle retirement and the delovery of Discovery to the Smithsonian. Of course at one point...

Assuming that NASA somehow managed to get a substantial increase of its budget in the early to mid 70s, could the Space Shuttle be build and designed without Air Force involvement?
And if it would be build, how different would it be?
