Personally, I ....
In order to clean the fake plants, just take them out and rinse them off in hot water if it bothers you.
Since you are growing real plants, the lights should be on for 8-10 hours a day, the schedule you have seems right.

This is just a thought, but if I can find fake plants that look very realistic, I might go with them, instead of live plants, which I have had problems with lately.
PM me if you have a brand and store that they are at?
Thank you in advance

Planting heavily from the start helps too as the plants help take to do some rooted plants, 2" dirt and how thick should I make my cap then?
I do have my testing kit, no prime though will have....
Gravel as a cap which will help too.

I was just at Michaels and noticed they had a decent selection of plastic plants cheap. Anyone tried using these in the tank? is it safe? Do they leach anything? I want to put some fake plants in with my silver dollar school.

Best 2 things I have discovered....
Same as said above, iv used fake plants in my aquariums with no issues, I soak them in a bucket in my tanks.
I have used the plastic and silk from places like that for over a year now, no problems if its just it.

One of the Christmas real because the temp has always been all over the map and some plants do not care much for that.
I can have a silk plant that will turn brown.
