Many of my silver coin auctions wind up selling for melt value although the coins are better grades, very good through gem. And fine coins without gold or silver content don't seem to sell at all.

That makes coins that were collectable as coins....
Many coins are now worth as much or more as silver than they are as coins.
I think the raise in prices for silver has changed coin collecting, likely forever.

Generally, people search through thousands of coins to find the rare silver that if you go in and ask a teller for silver coins, they'll look at you with a blank stare for one of two reasons: a)they have....
It's a numbers game.

Just visited the RCM's website and noticed that the coins in the 2012 fine silver proof set are struck twice at a lower than normal speed for a "high definition" finish.
Not exactly sure what that means, but it will interesting to compare the proof coins...

So I got this idea when I saw that the Imperial coins that people got from oblivian , they were listed on ebay for $80. The coins don't have any real value, just collectors value and what if they were to make a silver one of these that had real value....

I'm looking to purchase gold or silver coins. There seem to be many places to choose from. Don't know which place is the best.
Some places have a fixed mark up on their coins. If the market price for gold selling $1600/oz they sell their American eagles...

I will buy 90% silver coins. Only interested in U.S. Halfs, Quarters and Dimes made in 1964 or before. Certainly no culls or slicks and mainly want BU/AU coins. Will consider a little lower than BU condition but as stated no culls/slicks. I am paying ...
