Get in a formal apprenticeship and earn while you learn .
There are other training programs but they all have disadvantages as well the difference .

Sure they could find work in another state, but that's not always an option with several other trades....
It's more rewarding with several other trades.
Without skilled trades, many things wouldn't have been built.
