The cut edge along the bullnose is very common in subway tile layouts.

That is excellent tile layout you have gone with.
We just moved into our place vertical and half looked horizontal .
With the other two layouts your eye is drawn to the skinny tiles.

How does the other wall lay out? You want to avoid having a skinny piece a 1 x 2 and cut it so it is a bit shorter than the length of the wall.
Usually work out that way.
