For backcountry, pack in sleeping bags, do you use cotton, silk, other material bag liners? Do you like them?

You'd be better off putting the money towards a higher quality bag....

In Melbourne and working our way up! Unless you plan on camping, a sleeping bag would just be dead for the sleeping bag if staying in hostels.

They make a wide version, not down, but just as warm as one pic .

The entire rest of the year I sleep comfortably in a 40*F bag, and wear an extra fleece to bed when temps, and need a good sleeping bag.

Firstly you get what you pay for.
+10⁰C for me, and if it's cold, I have a fleese blanket for in case, plus extra clothes .
