I came to the conclusion, last night, that I fall asleep watching movies when I can't hear the dialogue.
Our Panasonic plasma has the speakers pointing down at the carpet so it is not surprising the sound is muffled. I boost it with a four speaker surround...

For the small space I would look at pro audio drivers like Faitel even a small pair of 5x7's......
There is no way to get full range out of a small speaker audio branded speakers.
Some kick panel pods someplace upfront.

Other speakers to look at would be the ....
Standmounts would give a much better music performance.
Small front speakers are never going to be the best with music as they will always be compromised by their size.
Surround experience.

Could skew your budget towards spending more on the front pair .
