In the past couple months I've had a few false alarms with the smoke detector near my basement studio--at least I think this is ground zero for setting off all the detectors in the house. Its hardwired (and the back-up battery isn't the issue). Has anyone...

I should have mention in my original post that the smoke detector is less than a year old and replaces; I renovated the basement....
It just.
I've had problems with a hard wired smoke detector that went bad and wasn't near anything.

While cooking in my small apartment the other day I realized a annoying design/engineering flaw in smoke detectors; they are way too sensitive.
I can't tell you how many times I've been cooking and something overheats and gives off a little smoke and ...

To no avail to know everything.
Also the only silly roommate thought it would be a great idea to put the smoke detector in the kitchen.
Never had to install a smoke detector and have never had a manual on hand to read.

Big problem here: I have 20-some foot vaulted ceilings, and the bone-headed builder of my home decided to put a smoke detector right in the middle of the ceiling.
There is almost no way I can reach the smoke detector; there are no study walls to lean ...

Did anyone know anything about this?
I had a system with 8 smoke detectors, the IR type, not the one with the radioactive particle inside. I need to test them but do not know if the DMM is the correct way (measuring the resistance or a way to measure ...

One of our smoke detectors started doing the "battery low" beep a couple nights ago. After trying to make sure the house wasn't burning down, I pulled the battery and went back to bed.
