The brass coating on the top two strings seems to mellow the sound.

I just tried to play two of my guitars and both have dead strings and sound terrible. I pick up my D28 and it's much better and the strings are just as old! That's always been the case, for some reason, it's like that.

Sometimes a guitar can sound "good" with dead strings, but I cannot change the sound....
What was Gibson WM45, one was Guild D40.
Are always played by great players! I'm curious.
Guitars that sound good with dead strings....

I'd like to retain that click, ease string from scratch....
The higher strings sound great, sustain is ok, nice click.
Compared to gut (or whackers) all Innovation strings can sound a bit twangy.
More gut-like in tone.
