I am considering a beautiful 1916 Spanish mauser in 7X57. Its an all matching gun in great shape. My only concern is that the seller says the headspace is long?? I am waiting back to find exactly what he means by long. My question in the meantime is if...

I picked up a Model 1893 Spanish Mauser with the Berlin '94 crest and 1894 cartouche on the stock. The receiver, bolt, floorplate, and triggerguard all match. Bore looks very good. Buttplate is a little rusty, the rest of the metal has a pretty dark patina...

For years, they bought from the US government all the 1893 Spanish Mauser's captured in Cuba after the Spanish American War and sold them out of their catalog.

These were as the starting point.
The Spanish M43 was similiar to a German K98k, also shared the 8mm Mauser chambering.
/1916guardiacivil/index.asp The Spanish FR8 Mauser is an M98-type action chambered in 7.62-NATO.

Can anyone help identify the markings on this M43 (1945 manfacture) Spanish Mauser?
The crest I know. However, I can't find anything about the markings under the crest in either Lapin's Mauser Military Markings (2nd Ed.) or Ball's Mauser Military Rifles...

Your rifle was proofed for export; those used by the Spanish....
It is not a "C" but a poorly struck "O", which is a Spanish year code.
A crescent moon? I have a Spanish mauser with the exact same proof marks in the same location.

Hi all:
A slightly sporterized Spanish Mauser in very nice condition just dropped into my hands...at least I THINK it's a Spanish Mauser.
The markings on the action include "Fabrico de Armas" in a half-circle around a crown, "OVIEDO" and "1909". The 2...

I have been widely criticised for building 22-250, 243, and 308 rifles on excellent Swedish Husqvarna military M38 actions, despite the fact that they were in excellent condition, built under strict quality control, both in the manufacturing process...

I do grow weary of all the warnings a Mexican 1936 style Mauser....
It's also what makes older Mauser actions viable.
Also agree that not all 98 Mauser actions are perfectly safe even been me).
I had put together was on a Loewe action.
