There were times when we had to write project documents in 4-6 languages .

When talking to people who don't speak English giving them an e-mail address over the phone is a pain. They don't know proper names of Latin alphabet letters, they don't know what is a valid word and what is not in the real language so even a very well...

That may be less painless....
You could always see if you can get their contact info and just send them an email containing your own info .
This isn't really a technical issue, as you would have this problem communicating anything, not just an email address .

If I have a commercial site belonging to a Japanese company which will use Katakana or Kanji (non ASCII characters) for the keyword they wish to obtain good search results in google, does it still matter to put the closest english word on the site DNS...

I think English language url is best and your non english keywords are important then use.
On another side, in my experience the content traffic.
That a Japanese DNS name would bring less hits than an English one.

I think you meant to ask if they speak "primarily" English or French speak English....
