Hi guys! I just assembled a new Linux file server with several Samsung HD103UJ 1TB hard drives and I am currently optimizing it. The question I can't find an answer to is: is it reasonable to set a spindown timeout (with hdparm -S) for the drives? Can...

Soon after the spinup.
Here are some power-related numbers for 120GB, 8MB, 7200 RPM drives used for upgrades. Spinup is peak, Seek and R/W are average. I included the OEMs for reference. When there was conflicting info (say from marketing vs. data sheets) I'm showing the worst...

I'm taking possession of a Dufour mill. Well, I'm trying to take possession -- trailer broke down 6 miles from the shop, parts unavailable, snow on the ground, . Anyway, this is the machine: I looked high and low, but can't find a model #. I'm guessing...

Hard to tell off one photo but I'd say knurled plungers in the middle of each of the handwheels? I can't figure out what knurled plungers in the middle of each of the handwheels?....
Dufour made good machines, mainly for the toolroom market.
Spin-Up will be releasing in the near future a Sample Exam book to help engineers pass the PE power exam on their 1st attempt. We are in need of 2 people who want an early release "proof" version to review and provide comments. The book will be free (...

I can't access the manual to get exact details on ECC.
Of them not spinning up at once, and thus obeying the staggered spinup their controller initiates with that board is the lack of ECC memory support.
Possible?
