And I would love if my employer paid in asking my employer to pay for the technical books I've bought.

If your getting mixed responses as to what to do, i would personally cover myself by contacting DIAC and making them aware of the change in situation, this way it cant ever come back to bite you on the bum,lol

You may be lucky and find someone willing to sponsor you.
On a family sponsor?? if you need a financial sponsor because of low funds this might be hard in and around Henderson / kwinana area.
