You may want to paint the thinner material (1X and 2X) when it dries out, even thought the 4X and 6X may not be dry enough yet, then come back and paint the 4X and 6X.
It drops low enough to paint, paint it.

The chin doesn't really match.
Iconic.
Either that or Stallone is immortal.

No, you do not need to strip it. Apply one coat of Zinsser Cover-Stain. This is a fast-dry, oil-based primer.
Others have advised you about proper ventilation; be sure your fan is big enough and clean enough to do an adequate job.

I now have a real clear coat, making the paint glossy, unlike the original stuff.

My contractor primed my ceiling. Told me I was good to paint. When I did the primer peeled off the ceiling onto my brush with the paint. Leaving bare drywall. Not sure what to do now. Where there is drywall mud it seems to be the worst spots.

Call him/her back..
Whatever the cause, the contractor did crappy work and/or used sucky primer .
He may have primed without wiping down the ceiling first so there was still compound dust on them .
Make the "contractor" come back and prime it properly.
