a Spouse Visa but the spouse (the Japanese national) actually resides abroad while Gaijin works

We have submitted paperwork for the Spouse visa (OH is currently on PMV) When he rang last week
visa had been sent with the "more info request" (that hasnt arrived yet) in case it is not approved

Reading about spouse and settlement visas and I'm a bit confused at what the difference is between

I have a spouse visa with almost 3 years to go. Very soon I'm permanently leaving the country
spouse visa? Am I required to surrender/cancel it too? I want to become non-resident for the usual

I have recently got married to my Japanese spouse, we went to the Visa office in Yokohama
four days later! everything else was in order, we were told the visa would take 2 to 3 months.
