Anybody using spyware or cleanup softwares on their Mac Pro?
I ran and installed a virus and a spyware program on my mac pro after 3 years of no scans at all. I thought i might find 3 or 4 things and I found nothing at all so i took it off. I really don't like anything running in the background that doesn't need to be especially for music.

What do you use to scan for spyware?
I use Avast for antivirus and keep Spybot around because of the resident shield abilities. I also use a program called Threatfire, which basically just looks for the "patterns", like trying to write something to the registry, etc, instead of scanning from an actual signature database. I keep the free Malwarebytes installed and updated for random malware scans though too.

What are some good Free Spyware, Anti-Virus programs that CAGs use?
I find most of the free AV to be crap, as epobirs has so alluded to. If you have to deal with an open system, or anything of that sort, then I'd recommend paying for AV and getting Kaspersky. Nothing gets past it, and it isn't too resource intensive.

How many anti-malware programs should one have?
But I wonder how many of those are false detections. Do you still remember what Windows Detector caught out that the others didn't?

Do I need more protection?
I got rid of microsofts crap and put on Avast and Spybot, not one problem in 2 years of having it on over 7 pc's. Having that many is taking up your memory and slowing down your computer.
