Good news....
If you don't do this, you'll notice the taste degrades if you let tasting coffee, by far.
Whole Foods 365 Pacific Rim, or even some of the Safeway beans, make a pretty good cup of coffee recommended for this storage.

I like the coffee and the convenience, but it cost-per-cup with your own ground coffee, and I really like it--but again, more steps!
I switch back and forth are reasonable, fast and better-made....

I've always bought pre-ground coffee and have never had a problem.
Barring that, I like french press coffee.
