Personally I would go with factory parts.

State Inspection failed the strut mounts. 88K, original struts. Car does not get driven extensively. Debating on doing struts along with the mounts, bearings,etc...is there a certain mileage/ road condition limit? I have installed the Panzer plate w/ ...

Had a bit of a look today at my strut top mounts and was surprised just how rooted they are!
36k miles and 34 months old.
The cup thing at the top should be in contact with the body unless I'm very much mistaken. Pictures of your borked strut top mounts...

It's different on our Subaru because the strut top mount bolts directly to the body rather than being held the strut falling out when the weight comes off the front wheels.

I got an estimate now.
Even though I think they could have just replaced the strut mount component.
Their idea is to replace both strut with brand new units including the springs
~$580 for parts
2.5 hrs labour + 4 wheel alignment.
~$1100 total

Why are they charging a extra .5 hr labour? r&r a strut assembly should only be 1hr a strut and it says suspension, strut....
They also would not go with just replacing the upper strut mount+bearing..
Still going to cost $780.

I replaced my shocks and struts a few months ago but never replaced the strut mounts. They seemed to still be in good shape.
Fast forward a few months and my two front tires were worn bald and was told from my mechanic that the car was way out alignment...

It isn't the strut mount that caused the tire wear but the fact that I didn't align the vehicle after from a friend and have it done right.
