I wonder how or if any one tried to create a RAM DISK, and then put the 2GB (or sometimes 1.2GB) .vhd file into it, and then run the virtual PC using this image.
It should be running super fast, as the hard disk is now simulated by RAM... I never tried...

We have a 300 Gb+ data array we'd like to query as fast as possible. Traditional SQL databases (specifically, SQL Server) cannot handle this volume as effectively as we need (like, perform a select with 10-20 conditions in where clause in less than 10...

Hi,
We're planning to migrate away from a series of static config files related to each client deployment.

I have to split huge file into many smaller files. each of the destination file is defined by offset and length as number of bytes. I'm using the following code:
private void copy(string srcFile, string dstFile, int offset, int length) { BinaryReader ...

(edit) something like:
private static void copy(string srcFile, string dstFile....
Just use Stream.Read and Stream.Write.
How large is length ? You may do better to re-use a fixed sized (moderately large, but not obscene) buffer, and forget BinaryReader .. .

I have a column "name" in a table and there are at least 10 million records. I've added an index on this name column. Now, for the first initial few searches, it was taking more than 10 seconds to return a single answer (whether the name was present or...

If the table has an index....
The larger the table, the more this costs.
Without an index, MySQL must begin with the first row and then read through the entire table to find the relevant rows .
Indexes are used to find rows with specific column values quickly .
