Stem Cell Research-What the?
As my teachers have said, Copying and Pasting from Wikipedia is stupidly obvious and shouldn't be done. Not only is it plagiarism, but Wikipedia isn't actually as reliable as one would think. Sure, it has it's up sides, but it can be edited by anyone and therefore key facts could be incorrectly written or not even mentioned at all. There will also be words that you don't know the meaning of, and all the teacher has to do is ask you what said word means to catch you out. It is also full of hyperlinks, which stick out like a sore thumb when your teacher marks your essay if forget to remove them. You can use Wikipedia as a guide for your work, but don't Copy and Paste because the teachers will find out one way or another. The teachers aren't stupid, despite what you might think. You can also be disqualified at GCSE level if you are caught plagiarizing your work. My French teacher went in to a massive rant about how you shouldn't plagiarize your work because a lot of people used online translators for their homework on that particular day, which only translate what is written in to it word for word, therefore they pay no attention to grammar or anything like that. So yeah, use Wikipedia for help with your homework, not as a place to Copy and Paste to get an hour's homework done in a few minutes. Unless your teacher has told you that you can Copy and Paste, in which case do so. source
Is Stem Cell Research The Modern Version Of Cadaver Study?
I think the biggest problem people have with experimenting on embryos is that they consider the embryo a life. What I don't understand is why they are not outraged at in-vitro clinics who discard unused embryos after a period of time. If it is a life, isn't throwing it in the garbage a bad thing? source
Stem Cell Research?
I think that stem cell research is fine, depending on where they get the cells. Taking them from unborn babies is not only wrong, but completely unnecessary. Stem cells can easily be taken from the umbilical cord, which does not conflict with morals and is really safer for everyone. Of course, the scientists working on stem cells should not claim that it's going to perform miracles, when they have no hard evidence to back it up. That would be like saying Bush manipulated information, then having him impeached just because you think he may have done that, even though there has never been any evidence pointing to that conclusion. source
Singapore, a mecca for stem cell research?
I have been hearing about Singapores stem cell research prowess for some time now. It would seem as though they would have some promising trials in the pipeline by now. I know they are doing a lot of research into diabetes. source
Stem Cell-where do you stand on this issue?
I was listening to NPR last month, I believe, and there was a scientist being interview. It was said that single cell removal from babies born with problem are being performed to find what the problem is with the child. This single cell removal can be use in stem cell research. source
