Which of my personal nominees would you choose?
Who wins for you...

And I resented her bigfooting into this category and denying a genuine supporting actress the slot history, a more deserving supporting actress for a foreign-language movie, the talented Gong Li .

I'm on the Mariel Hemingway train. A spontaneous, deeply-felt performance from an actress whose work I've always found unconventional (though this was certainly a case of pitch-perfect casting). Damien's assessment was spot-on.

I am glad to see some posters have come out in support of Rinko Kikuchi's performance, because I found her work revelatory upon watching Babel. I didn't spot a trace of sensationalism in her work, and it was by far the most authentic thing about this ...

Doesn't Monty Woolley is why I prefer the term "performance,"... .
My vote goes to her.
That leaves the field to Barraza, an excellent actress with an oscar caliber performance.
supporting at all, having shared the honors with Dench in NOAS.

I voted for Helena Bonham-Carter. Her quick, snappy presence completely changes the rhythm of the whole film, and I always enjoy watching such an intelligent actress as herself navigate such "safe" territory as this (similar to Tilda Swinton in Michael...

I've only seen Weaver from the lineup .
Either way, a wonderful performance.
You could also argue she's a supporting actress.

Nothing compares to Debra Winger's cameo in Rachel Getting Married. It's a real example of what an immensely talented actress can do with a few minutes of screen time – her presence influences the whole film and our insight into the main character's psychology...

Weiss was fine and Williams worked very hard and succeeded in having us remember her good work.
Leagues better was Catherine Keener, who created a living character from a real person and had us notice her though she was rarely doing anything of note on...

Cheered even louder for Amy Adams, who I think gives the greatest supporting actress performance-Supporting-Actress" go, Rachel Weisz probably isn't the less talented, though I was never deeply with Maria Bello over Frances....

Zeta-Jones gets a tough part perfect, but is not spectacular.
Latifah, I find not connected to the culture of the times. Worse, she's performing a lot rather than "acting."
Strangely, I don't remember much at all about Bates' performance.

Is Lilly Koshashvilli, and she actually won the best Supporting actress at the Israeli Ophirs (along a lead as Kidman was, and took a spot here that could have gone to a true supporting actress.

Ronan and Dee were both good/decent.
Swinton had virtually no character to work with but filled her performance with delicious eccentricities. She shone.
Better was Amy Ryan, who took a showy role and played it beautifully with tough sass layered in subtleties...

Blanchett does picks, one can't complain when they choose one of the most original and interesting actress working support.
One of my favorite supporting-actress performances of the whole decade.
For Amy Ryan.
