I am looking at picking up used 70-300 Nikon Lenses and see some advertised with photos. The VR lenses clearly show the red "VR" on the lens barrel.
But some that claim to be VR2, I cannot see any markings other than the red "VR".
Is there some other ...

In other words all of the 70~300mm VR lenses have VRII.
That's it.
To the best of my knowledge there was a non-VR version then a VR version.

Slash said he did not want to break up AB by bringing Myles to VR. However, Myles is now in Slashs other band writing music and touring. I think Myles would be the perfect fit for VR. I am not sure why he can't do the same thing he doing with slash but...

It's unlikely that VR would do much better commercially than the lion's share.
But I am not sure if this is accurate.

I feel like on my 50mm lens, I am borderline missing VR/OS. I searched but I'm surprised no one mentioned that they wished the 85mm lens had VR. Why is that? Maybe I am really shaky or something, especially when I'm holding the camera too long on one ...

This is also why Nikon needs to put VR in their camera bodies pretty much - 85mm....
Sure when, rather intolerant to decentering.
Or other shots I could imagine myself getting with low ISO, low shutter speed, VR, and no flash.

Just picked up the 70-200 VR II and i am doing some comparisons to the 80-200 af-s.
first thing i notice is the the difference in reach at 200.
first shot w/70-200 VR II
second shot w/80-200 af-s

I have been photographing birds for about 4 years within the constraints of a fairly tight budget.
About 3 years ago the Nikkor 300 f4 AF-S was recommended to me (to replace my Phoenix 100-400mm lens) and it improved my photography immensely, I love this...

I never knew VR may be that's why I never miss it, but I do miss AF when coupled with 1.4X.
Sure in perfectly controlled situations VR isn't needed but unfortunately nature doesn't.

For those of you that practiced VR every day (or nearly every day) how long did it take for you to start scoring in the range you wanted to? What approach did you take to ensure that you consistently improved?

Make sure you are going over your mistakes to see why you got them wrong....
And yeah, this scale is to do at least one passage a day and time yourself .
That's why I'm feeling soo nervous about my VR ability.
It is super intense.

Does VR make THAT much difference? I've been having problem hand holding my telephoto still enough to make a sharp shoot. The lens I am referring to is the 70~300 ED AF F4~5.6 lens.
When I was shooting with F501, it's weight is decent and I didn't have...

VR works pretty well....
As advertised, maybe slightly less sharp shots.
2/3 stops.
VR will help, but only so much.
70-300 AF-S VR F4.5-5.6 = 745g
70-300 ED AF F4-5.6 = 515g (I think)
So you'd be going up in weight...keep that in mind.
