As far as surfing, I don't know much about it, all I know is that I was told the water is extremely rough.
H and I went to Cabo in November for our HM, and while we didn't surf or drive there, I didn't rentals.

Buddy is getting married in September in Hawaii.
He currently lives in Boston, I'm in SF.
