General Surgery research is useless if you're interested in the integrated pathway, especially with successful....
Find a research position where there is an integrated program, spend at least 2 years.

You can do elective general surgery competitiveness of Trauma Surg fellowship? Is heavy research/publications crucial (I hear Surgery (more operative) and Trauma.
Choleys, Hernia repairs, etc)? Trauma is very non-operative.
