I've just read nico's maintanence thread..he states that after the first oil change (at 1k miles), it doesn't matter if you pour synthetic or semi-synthetic oil..
what is everybodies opinion on this? what difference would it make?

What is everybodies cycle oil is I swapped to amsoil synthetic aroung 2500 miles and used that ever since.

While I have never done it I have always wondered whether their was a real problem with mixing the two types of motor oil between changes.
I had a friend whose son was a engineer who dealt with the lubricating effective mes of motor oil for a major brand...

Older cars have a recommendation of SAE40 hence the newer oils may not be kosher. There is a Shell 5W40(or is it 50) which is a Hydrocracked oil (so eligible for the Synthetic tag). Let me repeat VFM is in favour of semi-synth or even mineral. Make sure...

synthetic oil is great the oil changed more frequently....
It takes me normally 6-7 months to get those 7.5K miles, with synthetic oil you should be able to go to get that dirt, moisture and other bad stuff out of the motor.
