I'm looking to buy a hobby cnc mill to play with. Will the Taig do small molds? Maybe something like this? Any time estimates on making a small mold like this?

What are....
If this mill is capable of doing this mold, then I have a few more questions.
I want one of those too.
PS I saw a Taig CNC lathe on Ebay for $1000.
Thanks guys.
And faster mill.

I recently completed converting my Taig mill to CNC. I'll document the process in this thread.

Huh? Nice work Thanks for posting, I have been thinking of getting a taig mill and cncingThis is the four axis stepper motor driver I built to convert my Taig milling machine to CNC first, followed by the X-axis and Z-axis....

As you guys probably know I keep preaching the mantra that bigger stepper motors do not always equal better stepper motors. I use and recommend 166 oz-in motors for Taigs and some folks always insist that you have to use 270 to 387 oz-in motors or a Taig...

Acceleration takes torque, so being able.
Just because my mill will do 100 IPM does not mean that the 'small' motors are a better choice for a Taig.
Birt That has been my point all along.

I'm looking at a used Taig Mill which has a SuperTech CNC conversion. It comes with SuperCam (the DOS version).
What controller did these come with?
How can I identify if the controller uses a pulse and direction scheme, or if it is running using an older...

Oh, ya the EMC-XYZ-BX configuration file for the controller....
Change it from 32000 to 8000 for the Taig Mill and it should work.

I'm fairly new to the Taig Mill and haven't found any in-depth info on how exactly to oil the Mill. I'm interested in exactly which areas need oil and how to get the oil onto the ways etc....?

The oil it with Mobile Vactra #2 way oil.
Don't you have a manual for this mill? as this would give the assembling procedure and oiling for getting under the mill and oiling the slides and screws (which are what need the oil).

Taig mill for sale. I bought this from Don Fogg some ten years ago. I just tore it down completely inspected it and cleaned it. The ways, screws and nuts show virtually no wear and the machine is tight. I upgraded the spindle...

Hello, first time on this massive cool site. I've successfully made all sorts of stuff including my scratch built heat treat oven with a PID controler, etching machine, and converted a few of my machines to DC variable speed, but trying to figure out ...

Couldn't you use a simple gearmotor, like a "wondermotor" with a speed pot and direction switch? They sell them in 60mm frame size, I believe, and you could make or purchase a simple clutch-coupler from Berg or some place like that .

I started looking into tool change capabilities for Sherline / Taig mills and was greatly disappointed at what I found to be available and the cost of such equipment more than stunned me.
Contacting IMSsas almost gave me a heart-attack, don't get me wrong...

Well, after 5 years running the Taig Mill, it is time to build an enclosure. I am ready to upgrade to a more heavy duty spindle, and need to run flood coolant. Also, the wife is tired of all the aluminum shavings all over the garage. I've seen some other...

My CNC build: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/genera...ml#post1059321
C -Constant
N -Nonworking
C -Contraption Update - I made a riser for the enclosure out of 2X4s .
Looks like that will do the job.
Very creative.

The question I ask is this, would I get more good out of an Atlas shaper or a small milling machine like a Sherline Mill. I build 3/4" scale locomotives, I have a 10" Atlas lathe with with all the toys that go with it but would like to expand my home ...

If you are thinking of....
I don't think work envelope.
On the other hand, a couple of things I've done with it would have been quite difficult to do with a vertical mill.
I find it a bit fiddly to set up compared to a vertical mill.
Years.
