Have you actually witnessed his tail dock being bitten? If not, I'd suspect bites.
Maybe spray it with something disgusting like Raplast.

There were days I had bite marks all over my to the ground, growling and barking.
Our lab went through an awful biting phase but as soon as his adult teeth came in it went away quickly.
I promise you it does get better.

All my adult mice have either one or two small bite marks on their tails each. What does this mean? They are all girls. Not sure why they are biting each other =S

If you can see a proper wound....
They get infected to this, as yet.
They're prob just fighting to see whos boss have they been together long? Tail injuries are difficult to heal as there is a poor blood supply and obviously its used as a tail.
Can anyone tell me what else can cause itchiness other than ticks+fleas? Diamond often bites his hind leg/rear end/tail without any sign of ticks/fleas. If it's skin problems, then he is obviously too shiny-coated for that. His coat doesn't show any abnormality...
