The tamron is a huge step up and rated almost as good....
The 18-55 3 wasn't a very good lens.
That kind of money on another lens but I have a chance to pick up the non VC Tamron 17-50 lensI think the tamron will be good for you.
Please can someone shed some light in why people say the nonVC version is better than the VC version as the quality and sharpness should be the same if you don't use the VC, shouldn't it???

Tamron is a third-party lens maker sticking with Sony lenses or Tamron.
If picture quality is your concern, don't replace your lens .

Then just take various shots starting at f2.8 and steadily keep... .
Put the camera on a tripod, stick it in Av mode, ISO100 and use the timer to trigger the shot .
A brick wall is pretty good I find.
