This is a question for those who live in areas with safe drinking water: Do you prefer to buy bottled water or do you drink water from the tap? And why?

I don't really see a reason not to.
Because it's easier and cheaper.

All the largest bottled water brands are tap water.It depends on the quality/state of your pipes that carry your water and the source of your water.

So my setup will put in around 4 gallons of RO/DI water and 1 gallon of tap water during the summer.....

That should clear the airlock it and prod it with an old screwdriver... .
Connect a mains feed tap to the bath tap with a hosepipe, turn both taps on and let the mains water into the bathtap for 30 secs or so.
Sounds like an airlock.
