Crankshaft sprocket Tdc marks wrong (one full tooth out) but crankshaft pulley correct. Worth checking Tdc with straw on no 1 pot to be accurate. Cambelt had been fitted by previous owner using sprocket Tdc marks causing engine vibration ,rough running...

On straw or similar, just make's it easier to see movement at TDC..

And when intake valve is opening at 8 to 10 degrees after tdc.
Re: cam lift at tdc it is the amount of exhaust valve lift when piston is about 10 to 8 degrees before top dead center...

Randy, in the two pictures from your website, which is the correct picture for TDC? I am thinking it is Pic #1 but I wanted to ask you first. I am going to be using a magneto on my rebuild. Thanks so much!

My opinion is, if it is intended for a mag, #2 is TDC, #1.

Hi i dropped a valve everything is fixxed ,got it back in one piece re shimmed it,done .now i just need to get tdc i know how to get there but how do i know if its in compresion stroke or exhaust stroke and witch valves must be open witch close

I'm about to pull the stock timing chain off this weekend in prep for a new cloyes roller chain. I have the engine at TDC( valves closed, #1 piston at top of chamber and stays closed through the power stroke). the raised notch on the cam gear is at 6 ...
