Any estimates on how long a 406 would need to idle at 800RPM (at 30 deg. F ambient temp.) before the thermostat should open up and let coolant into the radiator?
I'm worried that mine is not opening correctly because it did not open after I left it idling...

With my electric fan off driving it about 3-5 min it ....
You have your answer, but In so cal even at 75 deg it will not open thermostat at idle, when will find it hard to get to thermostat temp while idling in sub freezing weather.

Durbans thermostat qeustion ? does anyone know the exact temperature the thermostat opens for a 70hp, iam aware that thermostats open +/- 4 degrees before the factory setting not sure if its 82 degrees , thanks ,

If its "spewing" then you have a leak somewhere, hose/radiator/waterpump. The thermostat HOPEFULLY gave out, cheap and easy fix. The water pump might have gave out just depends. If your cheap you would take the thermostat out and put...

I have noticed that for a long time my engine temps never get above 170. I thought it was just my gauge. I have the stock gauge and the 89 mustang sender... but this morning I drove it to work... it never got above 170 in 16 miles. I got here I took one...

Either the thermostat is stuck open of coolant entering engine.

hey fellas, i was running my sled last night and the temp guage ws running way to hot, just befor the the red zone,
but the collers were were not warm at all, (outside temp) so i'm thinking the thermostat wasn't opening...

I have a 2000 740i. Using a Bavarian Autosport code reader I got the map controlled thermostat circuit/control code. Is replacing the thermostat warranted here? Also should this prevent the car from starting?
