So, when I did my swap, I followed QPENG indication of connecting the hose that comes from the t-stat to the top of radiator.

The gauge gets to 90ish, if it opens earlier then the thermostat is broken, or water is getting past normally to 90, and the fan will kick in.

I'm installing a KISS cooler, and understand it will not fill with oil until the thermostat opens. I'd like this to happen with as little load on the engine as possible.
Will an extended idle get oil hot enough to open the thermostat?

It comes with a new thermostat as well.
What the heater element does ? @Craig
The heater element opens the thermostat quicker if you drive, but unfortunately you cant just buy the housing.

So i'm pretty sure my thermostat has gone bad, just judging from past vehicles, my temp gauge shouldn't be jumpin up and down so much. On your guys' trucks, when it gets to 190 does it stay at 190? Mine is raising and dropping from like 165ish to 190 ...

There....
So with a Marine Thermostat, there's other ports that come off and go to the Exhaust manifold, and the auto style doesnt so that's a concern.
