I can't seem to get Thunderbird 3 and GMail to work together. I've been a Thunderbird user for years, and I have a different google mail account set up and working already which successfully migrated in from Thunderbird 2.
I'm not even sure at what end...

Ubuntu has as default email-client Evolution. However, a lot of people I know are using Thunderbird instead, without really being able to explain why. If you for example look here on Superuser, the tags thunderbird:evolution are 8:1.

No offense but these 2 answers are useless on server" option was activated by default for me (Thunderbird 3.0).
You can choose a number of days or until you delete them .

It can be done, similar to Thunderbird 2: Tools - Options - Advanced - Config think there is any way to do this for all folders at once, you have to do them one by one.

I'm still using Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 and the "Copy Sent to Current" extension which gives you whether it works with Thunderbird 3 or not - I haven't thought about upgrading yet (but as it's now at 3.0.1 I might).

Attempting to sync TB with Dropbox. Copied all my Thunderbird stuff from:
%APPDATA&\Roaming\Thunderbird
And placed it in a 'Thunderbird' directory in Dropbox. Then I edited the profiles.ini file so that it looked like this:
