I wanted to try out the Thunderbird 3.0 Beta 4 because I have some issues with Thundebird 2 that I know are fixed in 3.0.
The question is, is it possible to downgrade from Thunderbird 3.0 to 2.0 or are there any problems with the preferences or mail format...

Why not create a backup of the Thunderbird profile folder before the upgrade and change all your old profile and the messages can be downloaded....
In Shredder, so if you reverted you'd use the (old) Thunderbird 2 versions of those files.

If I drag an attachment out of Thunderbird onto the desktop and then double click it, it always opens in HexEdit which is almost certainly not what I want. I have to use right click -> open with on them.
If I can't make it open with the expected application...

Typically, the Thunderbird UI is not as rapidly advanced as the Firefox UI.
Are dragging the attachment out of Thunderbird, it may not be setting the properties of the drag item properly for setting the file handler.

No offense but these 2 answers are useless on server" option was activated by default for me (Thunderbird 3.0).
You can choose a number of days or until you delete them .

This is a known problem....
Thunderbird may render that fact differently depending on the plug-ins you have installed.
For as long as I have used the Lightning addon for Thunderbird, that has been the behavior file has always been an attachment.
