I can't believe there are many people at all who pay the full asking price Booked last year on line, no probs used to redeem for your 'at the top....
Both times, hassle-free, just took on-line ticket & my credit card I'd booked it with.

You print the itinerary and take it to the airport with you, which is where you will receive your tickets after check in..

I have heard you can pick up your AP and buy tickets at the same time without....
That means picking it up, go through the gate, and then purchase extra tickets at gate price.
To buy extra tickets with an AP the pass needs to activated.
