The tone is whatI would prefer a coin with attractive toning on both sides, but there are nice coins of all kinds....
I can only see one side of a toned coin at one time so it does not matter to me.

Beware of the heat or chemically toned coins that now flood ebay sites. True toning comes from coin boards and takes several decades. Some coins tone in manila evelopes or just naturally over a long time.If it doesn't say how it was toned mostly they ...

These coins that were put in frames were typically circulated pieces that were polished prior to sale.
However, the coin appears to have been at PCGS or NGC.
A picture of: As far as the toning, I believe it would grade.

Here is a quick question. Is there a simple rule of thumb to remember when negotiating a price on a beautifully toned coin? I found a PCGS MS 63 graded coin on ebay for my type set for a BIN WAY over book, but I e-mailed the seller and now he is telling...

Of nice coins is on a coin-by-coin basis and this is especially true when they are attractively toned beautiful, toned coins----so-called monster toners---you are paying for color, not a technical grade.

Why do they seem to tone better than jeffersons? And I have never seen a toned V nickel, which is strange, since they are an older series.
I have seen some beautifully toned buffalo nickels.

I asked this is the toned coin post but I think my question was lost in all fo the pictures. What exactly is a toned coin? I found one roll searching last night and put it into the Return pile. Should I have kept it? What causes the toning?
