After just under a year in the industry I've come to the conclude that if you stuff 1001 veteran HVAC techs in a hotel conference room, and listen to any single one of them; the other 1000 don't know what they are talking about. I might be exaggerating...

Does anybody pay their tech a base salary, or guaranteed daily # of hours, combined with a flat rate style pay scale for the difference ?

Calculate it based on weekly hours, and make it consistant .
110%+, you have a very good tech, and should just be paying more.
