I recently bought a macbook pro 13" and I'm not quite sure if it matters or not to have my notebook off before i travel with it in a backpack. is it fine if i just let it go to sleep first and have the hard rive not spinning but the comp in seep mode?...

SLEEP is okay, as only the RAM is powered during sleep, thus no part is moving.
