I'm wondering how the key stiched in William got there, after all Hoffman is
not a doctor, and John did get help from Doctor Gordon for his medical
traps, but if Hoffman didn't even know about Doctor Gordon then who put the key there? Hoffman might have...

I think the key was just underneath the skin and the stitching was sloppy .
