You could get a cheap chinese tube mic, then just modify it later.
It isn't a tube mic, but if you couple it with a pre that has a tube stage, you can get all and plug-ins, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Especially the ntk which although being a tube mic also sounded harsh in it's stock form....
Yeah the nt2a has a few become our favourites.
If i was really missing something or if a tube mic would be after all not that necessary.

A good tube will cost more than the pre, and probably won't change the sound much.
Like an ART MPA GOLD mic pre, which has a true high voltage (if switched that way on front panel) tube preamp.

Hey Guys!
I recently acquired this piece in a trade deal. I must say that I am extremely impressed with the sound. The pre puts the voice right up there in your face. It has a nice warm characteristic to it and really handles the bottom-end of audio extremely...

So, we are looking at a very rare handbuilt pre here! It sounds only handmade 6 units.
Different tube complement, three built for a record label.
Batteries?
As far as the OS-1 it looks like a completely different beast .

Would it be possible to use or modify a microphone preamp to use for input into an amp? Even if it were just a line stage to color the sound? I dont have any knowledge of the technical aspects of why this would or would not work.
