If your text editor is to be useful long term it needs to have pretty (The ability to compile with an external program directly from your editor, and the ability be used as a test of 3 above....

I use vim/options.html#%27textwidth%27 I generally ....
That is, I try not to hit the "enter" key for a new line, but when the editor soft-wraps, it actually inserts a newline character.
Typically I have my editor insert newlines.

I'll support Pablo by saying that Notepad++ really is a very convenient editor....

Did you try starting your eclipse with the -clean parameter ? Do you reproduce the issue with a fresh Eclipse.
Since this is not a standard setting, it could be the result of one of your extra plugin.

What are you trying to get....
Creating your html on you desktop and copy and pasting it to your browser editor just make sure you use-fixing is kind of inherent to any WYSIWYG editor, because broken HTML can't really be edited.
I would like to have the same editor available on all of the platforms I frequent. Emacs and Vi are not desired solutions.

In terms of speed and facilities and it is worth taking the time to learn enough to turn it into your editor of choice, which I think is why us folks who like emacs like it - because we can customise from EDT.
