So I'm pretty set on painting in a non toxic way (bad allergies to terps, etc) and have been using MGraham's Alkyd Walnut oil and it works out fine.
Really the only time I'm in need of a medium is when I start a painting and I want to paint very thin ...

He says that he prefers the feel of the walnut, and the spike lavender oil has no smell, I hear ....
Perhaps he'll chime in.
I found this.
I find the smell of spike oil to be heady, but not like turp where one feels poisoned a bit.

Just wondering if anyone has a quick and/or effective way to clean brushes after painting with oils. I have used baby oil and turp...Some others I know use shampoo...Thanks for any suggestions....Terry .

I wipe my brushes with paper towels, wash ....
After rinsing your brush in turps or OMS, the studio soap works great.../dp/B001TNR7VM I've used walnut oil to clean everything! It's non toxic and smells great.

I do a similar thing but use linseed ....
You can use your favorite oil instead of the hair conditioner, someone on WC does this...I don't use oil because of oily messes and the container was bought at a home improvement big box store along.

I have read the Sam Maloof recipe, tung oil, boiled linseed and varnish, however my question is...it says to use raw tung oil and I have read that raw tung oil takes a loooong time to dry. What I am guessing is that the varnish and the driers in the boiled...

Mediums are for the most part optional.
No strong odors here.
Paints and use walnut oil with them for medium and cleanup.

For this, normally I just paint the medium I am using (usually Artists Turps & Stand Linseed Oil) on gently? Did you thin with water?

Hot towels best to achieve this? Plenty of White Spirit/Turps, cloths , wire wool and various grades sandpaper or wet and dry as required yes ....
turps to get any oil and grease out.
As said.
The rough work then 2000 grit to finish.
