Humbrol and turps?
Hi all.
I have been looking for enamel thinners to thin humbrol as buying in the small "hobby" quantities is not cost effective.
Could not get any last week and didn't want to use laqer thinners as it causes pigment seperation if ratio...

But then again, almost all oil based piants are thinned with miniral turps enamels thinned with white spirit (mineral spirit) or turpentine (turps) as I used both at the time on the fingers like turps....
Is a parafin based thing.

Q. My uncle was trying to tell me that fish oil is the way to go to protect my machines from rust. Bull or not!
I know it will stink for a while, but he said it went away after a couple of weeks.
I think id rather keep using the old motor oil unless there...

I knew of one fellow who used fish oil many years ago on tools back in the 60's.
Fish oil was used in cars long before rust prevention of these days to prevent rust.

I can't give more than an opinion on the baby oil, but why take a chance if there are other options to clean the brush? Besides the varieties of turps, a good wash of Dawn dishwashing soap about "hue" is to go to DickBlick.com....

Even straight oil....
Most artists will say 'don't use over 20% medium layers if not very dry .
You can use the same medium in every layer consistently, or add more oil to it with each progressive layer.
It simply with linseed/walnut oil.

If you were to soak wood with clean engine oil, would this keep rot from starting?
So lets say you started a new project without using epoxy or modern adhesives, etc... and every piece of wood used was first saturated with new clean engine oil.

These were generally laid types of oils and many coatings.
Or perhaps it could be left unpainted, would the oil protect the wood from greying in the sun Fisherman on the west coast put their used engine oil on the deck.

The piece is old and I would not mind keeping some of that imperfect look to it .
