They then converted within 30 days to residency visas after my paperwork came through.
My wife and sons came into the UAE on tourist visas.

To be in the UAE, the have to get a visa to drive some hours away! From what I know about travel in Jeddah needing to get a visa just to travel to Riyadh.

Got a bit of an issue.
We've just taken delivery of a newborn baby in the UK. Mrs and baby are still in the UK. She has a residence visa - the baby doesn't.

You can search, and register for your Emirates ID, and then they can start processing your residency visa for a job while on a visit visa....
Working on a visit visa is not allowed.
You need a work permit to work in the UAE.
