Last night the servers ran out of free space due to an overflow of backups (better than a shortage!), corrupting the virtual machine state files. We had ~6 hours of downtime as a result. Unfortunately, I was forced to restore a backup from around 12 hours...

I run about 5 different hosted servers, through a variety of hosting providers. In the past two months, one of the servers I work on has been down twice. Both times were unexpected and fairly long (36 hours and 4 hours). The server in question is a VPS...

To answer your question: did you get an explanation as to the causes of this downtime? 36 hours.
Edit: The server is back up! It seems that due to a problem on our host's end, the server is offline. We will work as fast as possible to get it back online.

Waiting for it I sent some emails and posts to wireplay´s staff, trying to figure out what was going on, with almost no results, (only one replied) .

The reason for the period of unexpected downtime for the last 15/20 min was a firewall error. Should be resolved now. The server wasn't actually down, it just wouldn't let anyone visit.
