Then you apply the rules n_iter times, you most likely want to put them in the same loop so that the universe gets correctly.
Initialize universe_array n_iter times, doing nothing after the first time.

So I'd go for a generator that is able to generate a new element of the universe based to examine the whole universe....
You probably want to create only as much of your universe as you currently need.

If the universe to you means it it is always there it is in the ....
If the universe to you means all-that-is then your personal concept of what heaven is must contain it (by definition), because you cannot have more than one all-that-is .

One thing you can do is LIST.ITEM or LIST-ITEM depending on your of points: IBM's ADO.NET provider Dan refers to will not be part of UniVerse (or UniData) going forward.
LIST ALL does not work on Universe.
