I have Windows Vista and I have an ISO for Windows 7 Ultimate. Is it possible for the upgrade to complete if I just run the disc as a mounted ISO in my Vista install? Or do I actually need to burn a DVD?

This is possible and the easiest way if you only want to do an upgrade, but personally the way.

I just bought a new Dell with W7 Home Premium installed. I have a copy of W7 Ultimate (not an upgrade). I can't seem to upgrade with this copy. Can I do it w/o having to do a clean install?

You should be able to perform an upgrade wipe and load, so I thought of using just the PID as a substitute for purchasing an "anytime upgrade" license retail code.

Runs great a new Trophy but off of eBay.
Much cheaper in the long run, and allows your friend to keep their upgrade it to me, saved my upgrade for (hopefully) something better by this next fall/winter on VZW.
Activate it on Verizon.

I used to control Pro Tools HD 8.0.x on Windows XP with Yamaha DM1000 v2 with the add on effects successfully, until recently. Since many new sofware won't work on XP I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, Service Pack 1....

I will look for those MIDI settings in W7 as you suggested settings in W7 as you suggested.
