I'm looking to see the process new and established Event and Meeting planners use, to find new relationships with their vendors.

I'm not an event planner, but I know quite a few professionals who use Planner who said they were setting up an office in San Fran and were in need of a new vendor list the phone and called me.

I will defer to others who actually work in the field rather than just having a degree, but you could ask something along the lines of:
What is your vision for this project? That allows them a lot of leeway and may answer more questions than you realized... .
